Providence Performing Arts Center | Providence, Rhode Island
Direct to you from the most iconic stages on Broadway and having previously performed in the greatest performance venues around the globe, Hamilton is now making an appearance in Providence at Providence Performing Arts Center on Saturday 14th December 2024. Watch live as history blends with forward-thinking creativity through creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s story centered on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography.
The performance retells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the American Founding Fathers, from his humble beginnings as a young broke immigrant to one of the most critical key players in the American Revolution and as the countries first Secretary of Treasury. It chronicles a story of romance and tragedies, both in and beyond politics, performed by an award-winning cast and crew. Rounded out by modern music genres of hip-hop, jazz, and R&B, it is a rapid-fire retelling that has been received positively by audiences both in North America and abroad.
The show will only be performing in Providence Performing Arts Center for a brief time, so snap-up your spot as soon as possible and don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime chance!
Production producer Lin-Manuel Miranda, fresh off his success from his last Broadway show, In the Heights, conceptualized Hamilton for a number of years before it debuted in the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2015. It was in this debut that he also acted the role of Hamilton. The whole Musical, including its brilliant cast and epic score received highly regarded reviews from both critics and the audiences alike.
Hamilton, as most know, is a historical story based off one of the Nations Founding Fathers, but Hamilton takes a contemporary and modern approach, as seen in the music genres chosen and more so in its diverse casting. Plus, the 2016 Tony Awards, where Hamilton was awarded 11 out of 16 nominations, is a display of its success. Hamilton’s original cast consisted of the likes of Philippa Soo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Jonathan Groff. Individually, the cast was already filled with both notable nominees and awardees, but their varied and rich performances collected together brought the show to a brand-new level. The production team, just as incredibly talented, earned Tony Awards for the production. Thomas Kail for Best Direction, Andy Blankenbuehler for Best Choreography, Alex Lacamoire for Best Orchestrations, Howell Binkley for Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Paul Tazewell for Best Costume Design of a Musical, and of course the man himself Lin-Manuel Miranda for Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, all stole the show at the 70th Tony Awards. Above all and unsurprisingly, the show also won Best Musical for 2016. The touring cast and production crew in each new venue where Hamilton is on tour brings the same passion and excitement in their performances, with favorable reviews posted consistently.
The show’s unceasing rise to fame led to opening many doors worldwide for audiences to experience Hamilton. It has continued for the past 10 years to perform not just on Broadway, but also on London’s West End and in a number of theaters across Asia. The production’s limited season will be heading to Providence throughout December (and on Saturday 14th December 2024) at Providence Performing Arts Center, performing at one more world-class stage with the ultimate facilities and sound engineering that rivals even Broadway and West End theaters.
