& Juliet - Musical Tickets
Providence Performing Arts Center | Providence, Rhode Island
Rhode Island, locals are in for one of the best twists to William Shakespeare's most recognized tragedy! Giving new meaning to 'contemporary' and founded on one of the magnificent love stories adapted several times, the new comedy musical, & Juliet, is coming to the theater platform on Sunday 2nd March 2025 and to be held in Providence Performing Arts Center of Providence.
From the perspective of the central female lead of Shakespeare's iconic tragedy, ‘& Juliet’ presents the possible scenario where Juliet chooses to move forward after Romeo commits suicide and Juliet's profound realization of the other joys in life she didn't know about throughout her journey to Paris. Along the way, our main lead encounters both previous relations and new friends who were made for more modern audiences. Having premiered just in 2019, the post-modern play puts a unique twist on the original Shakespearean story and finds a way to entertain even young viewers.
Rediscover the classics as this ultramodern play unfolds onstage, only found in Providence Performing Arts Center, and don't forget to be able to secure your tickets before they run out!
When compared to the original plot of the Shakespearean play which debuted live roughly four centuries ago, viewers have noted the many alterations which were implemented to ‘& Juliet’, a significantly more modern production based on the same lead character. Shakespeare’s original premise revolves around the tragedy that comes about because of rash decision-making and the unbridled passion of two lovers, which results in the suicide of both Romeo and Juliet. On the other hand, ‘& Juliet’ looks beyond the said tragic ending and instead pursues a more positive outlook by concentrating on the limitless possibilities of life, even after such traumatic experiences.
This messaging is evident in the new productionl’s cast of characters, Juliet, and her team of friends, who make the trip to Paris and discover their identities not just as individuals, but as strong women. ‘& Juliet’ is a good feminist perspective through the eyes of Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, who takes control of her husband’s story and changes the ending of his well-known classic. She gives both old characters from the original story a second opportunity to shine, while introducing new and equally capable women to the stage. Going off-script from Romeo & Juliet, the production is able to incorporate pop culture, specifically songs from recent years, that express the growing awareness and self-discovery of each of the ladies throughout the musical. Even the attire worn by the production’s characters give a nod to Romeo & Juliet, while emphasizing the contrast between the ongoing musical and the previous classic by using Elizabethan clothing and iconography with today’s costume styles. Each aspect of the show was carefully thought-out to symbolize empowerment and "being able to write your own story".
